New multi site enhanced version of OinkPlus available

Update 2007/11/20: What.cd support has been fixed. You may need to clear your browser cache to be redirected to the new version, though.

A new version of OinkPlus is available. This has some nice new features, including enhanced artist browsing, a search bar, new external links and a lot of under the hood improvements like caching, less ressource consumption and heavily improved privacy. The support for stmusic.org has been fixed (sorry guys for neglecting you for so long, I have been busy lately) and Libble.com as wells FunkyTorrents have been added to the gang of supported sites. See the changelog below for details.

Install the latest version here, as always make sure you have Greasemonkey installed and activated. Scroll down for information on this.

If you are new to OiNKPlus read this:

OiNKPlus was a popular extension to OiNK that even made it to the front page. That script made discovering new music, streaming samples and finding related artists easy as never before.

On the left a generic upload, on the right the same upload with OinkPlus installed:

Credit for the illustration goes to everyone enjoys it.

What does it do in detail?

  • displays 25 similar artists (Last.fm)
  • displays 5 tags (Last.fm)
  • adds a short bio (Last.fm)
  • adds 2 preview players (MySpace, Last.fm)
  • adds links to external resources

What do you need to install it?

Is it possible to make something like that for movies/games?

  5. Man, just wanted to let you know I was a big fan of your script on OiNK and just installed it again to work with Waffles and What and it's still marvelous!

  7. @space-dye: Someone borrowed the idea and made something similar for movies. Maybe he will go public with it, as it it limited to a private site right now.

@lillian: after you have installed and activated greasemonkey (a red colored monkey at the right bottom of FireFox indicates this), you can go to the install pages and a Greasemonkey dialog will prompt, where you choose to install the script. After that you just browse over to any of the supported sites and look for music torrents the normal way. Then you will see the difference.

  8. This script is awesome. I would miss many great bands without it. Is there any way to run it under opera?

  9. Hey, I was thinking about how inadequate the last.fm similar artists can sometimes be (look at Beck's similar artists, for example, no. 1 is Radiohead?). Just a thought, but could you do something like examine the tags for the similar artists, and display only those that fall into the same genre? Oinkplus has helped me discover alot of good bands though :D, nice work!
